At such a young age, Damien DeRose appears to have found his voice. Under the pseudonym of Peasant, DeRose has fallen into the specifics of folk-pop. Despite adhering to such a genre, Peasant’s recent contribution, On the Ground, is a complete surprise. His soothing vocals compliment the simplicity of the rhythms made on guitar – it is another successful case of the less-is-more paradigm. “Impeccable Manners” is a delightful exchange of harmonies, while the title track “On the Ground” is filled with sentiment and nostalgia, yet concealed with the sweetest of melodies. With a promising start, Peasant is more than capable of surpassing his contemporaries.
