Best Coast is the project of Bethany Cosentino. She is a member of the band Pocahaunted and used to be an intern at Fader but little did they know she had mad music talents. Now gracing the pages of Fader, I’m pretty sure they are proud as punch.
Hailing from L.A., Cosentino and Bobby Bruno form the band Best Coast and they are probably the coolest band to surface from the west coast hotbed. Fuzzy distortion, simple lyrics and twee melodies are what Best Coast do best and they do it so bloody well. This is lo-fi, garage-surf-pop that is really accessible; I can’t see them as a niche band even if they are associated with their obvious D.I.Y contemporaries – throw them all the Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls or Wavves references you like; they couldn’t care less. Best Coast are doing something right albeit quite late in the game and that’s okay because I don’t think I could ever get sick of this.
