A While Ago: Here We Go Magic at Red Eye Records

Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic treated the small few to an acoustic set at Red Eye Records promoting their tour with Grizzly Bear not too long ago. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of their last album but I went to feed my curiosity – you could say that ‘I’ve got a mild fascination.’

Acoustic sets are a no-bullshit context, as songs are stripped bare with nothing to hide. It highlights the bands true essence and in the quintet’s case, the intricately layered vocal melodies, Luke Temple’s song-writing genius and subtle tribal rhythms are yep, all real. The quick 6-song set was delightful especially during the songs “Tunnelvision” and “Casual”.

It was clear Here We Go Magic is a relaxed yet tight band and I left Red Eye with their psychedelic-pop encouraging me to give Pigeons one more go.
